Chicken shack
Since my new arrived I have had a problem with creapy crawlers. Please don't send me to the site with pictures as they haven't helped. Little Nugget has small white bugs on her and she has what appears to be eggs (stuff stuck to the base of her feathers. I have used Barrier on all 5 and put it in the nesting box now for several weeks but she still has them. I purchesed spot on Mite Treatment (Ivermectin) not licenced for but many on here recomended it. I have just done all the and on inspection found some tiny little black critters next to the skin that move. They are much smaller than the white ones What do you think they are I am pretty sure Nugget has lice but please tell me if you think I am wrong. I haven't a clue what the tiny black ones are. Oh the joys of keeping. They are all very bright and feeding well and are so easy to treat bless them. (The not the bugs)
Jools
The black ones sound like Northern Fowl Mite, right tenacious little creatures! To get rid of my infestation I used Ivermectin drops and Frontline spray, neither of which are licensed for poultry. Had that not worked, I'd have bathed them in a dog flea shampoo bath. Oh joy! I am on the right track then I will get some front line spray tomorrow. My head feels really itchy I asked my DD to take a look and she said that she couldn't see anything. Can I or the cats get them
Ain't Nobody Here
I've just treated Maisie for lice and despite leaping in the shower immediately afterwards (as I was convinced there were things crawling in my hair), I'm still feeling like something's crawling on me . I'm really hoping it's all in my mind . Hope you get to the bottom of your mites/lice .
Chicken shack
OMG how expensive is Frontline Tomorrow I hope to Frontline them all. Bluebelle has a dirty bottom do you think I should bath her Or perhaps bath them all I have never bathed a before.
beach chick
it might be easier just to clip any lumpy bits away, rather than a bath... use blunt ended nail scissors so you dont clip the skin. there is a thread on chickens about 'how to bath your hen'! Chicken shack
I treated all the with spot on Mite Treatment (Ivermectin) not licenced for chickens on Friday. Today I trimmed of the feathers from Bluebells bottom and sprayed with purple spray and coverered my self in the process, sprayed all 5 with Frontline not licenced for chickens . I could still see the tiny ones NFM on Nugget but no lice so it looks like I may have one one battle but I will do them all again on Wednesday. I really hope I don't see any again. beach chick
I do sympathise - yesterday I frontlined (not licenced etc) all 8 and sprayed the one with poss scaley leg. come thursday, I'm going to do everyone's legs as a precaution. plus they are on pellets + flubenvet at the moment, so am withdrawing eggs!! however, if you can get on top of it at this time of year, it must be a good thing - we've never had a problem til this year's scaley leg, so I guess it's just keep on going....
