sorry more questions...

Recommended Posts

Ok so im hopefully getting some girls today (pekin and australorp bantams) and want to make sure i know what im doing when i get them home. Am i right in thinking put them straight in the eglu but not the run? Do i put any food/water in with them? if so how? just stick the glug/grub on the floor of the eglu?

Ive put our bedding in the nest box and in the tray to the eglu is this right? we have a cut hay bedding atm as its all i could find but think i have sourced some hemcore so they will be switching to this soon.

I have some hen grit - where do i put this?

Anything else major i might have forgotton? When shall I let them out of the eglu for the first time?

Thanks for all your help!!

so excited!!

Sam

I have some little galley pots/coop cups that I put grit in, as well as some bokashi bran, as they tend to eat the stuff I put it their nest box otherwise..some times put warm mashy stuff ion them too...I put aubiose ( like hemcore) in the next box and in the poop tray too....can't help you with the food questions, as mine went straight out into the run...good luck x x

When you get them, put them in the run and leave the coop door open so they can go to bed when it gets dark. If they don't go in the coop when its dark, put a torch in there and they should be attracted to the light.

We have our grit in an extra pot on the side of the run, you could use any pot/bowl though.

We didn't let ours out for 5 days so they only had access to their eglu and run. Then we let them free range and they went to bed on their own :)

Fill the grub with food and they hook the eglu run, as does the glug. (we only half fill ours because it falls off the run)

I wouldn't worry though, sounds like you have it all covered! Enjoy!

the way I do it is put the in the coop to settle with the door closed for about 15mins the open the door and let them come out when they are ready usally take about an hour that way they have some were they feel safe make putting them to bed abit easier I took my 8 week old growers two nights to take them selves to bed I don't put food or water in the coop just the run
