sjp
I've removed the last 3 eggs from the incubator and opened 2 of them. the barnbar was never going to hatch due to a deformity the columbian black tail is a puzzle the chick looks fully formed but has a large amount of yolk left, the sack was intacked the gold Legbar I think gave up somewere after day ten, when I candled it it was only dark on one half of the egg running top to bottom not one end I tried to open it but did like the look of the gunk coming out so gav(e it up I still have one gold legbar egg under the broody that I'll try to remove in the morning if it's not hatched she's got 3 chicks) if it looks ok when I candle it I'll pop it in the 'bator and see what happens she's had enough of been cooped up on the nest
sjp
looks like the last egg is not going to hatch I'll candle it later tonight but I think it's a dud so the final tally is 2 /7 in the incubator 3/4 under the broody I did put 5 under her but been as she ate one the night I put her into the broody coop I've discounted that one 5 out of 11 eggs not a very good result I'm afraid so I've got 2 cream legbar crosses in the house 1 welmar cross and 2 barnbar crosses with the broody
sjp
the chicks under rebecca are 3 weeks old on Tuesday and the broody coop is now to small so I've got to move them into the now empty growers pen (they are now in thier brand new pen and house as of this morning) questrian with a stroopy broody that hates been handled even after dark is it best to move the chicks first and hope she follows or bite the bullett and grab hold of her? ignore this questrian I moved her this afternoon with no trouble from Rebecca opened the top of the run she jumped out one chick ran in to the coop so I grabed the other 2 put them in to thier new home scooped Rebecca up with no fight from her went to get chick number 3 which promptly jumped out of the broody coop and ran off with me chaseing her broody jumps out to protect the chick which ended up helping me to catch it as the broody got in the way of the chick running of upshot mother and chicks now in thier new home and the operation gave the rest of the flock a bit of entertainment. just got the broody speckled sussex to move now
