Willow
I think I'm not allowed to say who it is but they are a green electricity supplier that I moved to back 2008 after reading the Strawbridge book on going green (can't remember title). Anyway had lots of problems with them and bills. They kept sending random bills for odd time periods different meter readings but always for the same amount ! I tried to point out that there must be something wrong but it was really difficult and in the end they decided on an amount I owed that sounded not too far out so I paid up and switched away (in 2008). Wasted masses of time, phone calls, letters, emails etc and I was only with them a few months. Anyway clearing out my old work computer last month I noticed the email exchange and thought oh that was ages ago I can get rid of those now This morning I got a demand for £148.60 I've not had any correspondence with them or electricity from them for 3 years I just know after last time that this is going to take ages to get sorted
The Dogmother
That's really pants, can you report them to OFGEN?
Willow
I rang and they couldn't explain it so said someone would ring me back later. I got impatient so poked around on the ofgen site and others and discovered any formal complaints to a power supplier that haven't been resolved by the end of the day have to be reported annually. So I made a formal complaint on-line then rang again an hour later and got put through to their 'customer champion' who remembered the previous fiasco. After a conversation that got a little heated as I insisted that I didn't owe them anything and would not be paying and would be taking it straight to ofgen she suddenly backed down as she realised that the final bill which was for less than a month by their records was infeasibly large (£150 approx). She then said they would 'write off' the bill. I did comment I wasn't entirely happy as I maintained I didn't owe them anything but would accept that as a resolution. I now need to make sure they don't do anything to my credit rating as a result of 'writing off' the charge. If I need to fight I'd forgotten quite how bad a fiasco the original bills were and fortunately I'd kept them The last thing they had sent me in 2008 was a cheque for approx £18 as they'd decided at the time they had overcharged me. I have a stack of bills where measuring them with a ruler would be easier than counting and even they claim only 2 were actually correct. The last one I paid and the mystery one that took 3 years to get to me. I don't believe any were correct...
