Buying Eprinex

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

Has anyone , who's not a farmer, succeded in buying Eprinex?

Every shop I've tried ( Countrywide) immediately asks for the cattle herd number etc. as does any internet online site. I had a bad red mite infestation last year & am really keen to avoid all mites, bugs & worms!

Hi Jenny

I got mine from the vets due to one of my girls having northern fowl mite a while ago - he dispensed a small amount for me and said I could get a 'repeat prescription' in future if needed (as it's usually sold in large quantities being for cattle.)

Obviously it's more expensive as there's a consultation cost involved if you see the vet but others may be able to advise if they've managed to get some by other means.

Good luck!

Some vets may be reluctant to prescribe it as the law states they can prescribe an unlicensed drug 'if there is no other suitable treatment'. If there is another suitable licensed treatment they will advise that instead. Also, they don't always want to go to the trouble of adding a one off cattle drug to their computer pricing system especially if they are small animals vets

One of the vets I go to is a keen hen keeper, and he happily prescribes it for my flock.

Mine is the same, we have a farm practice which probably helps - he's the vet who first got me into using it (not licensed for use on poultry in the UK). I buy it in a 250ml bottle and find it invaluable.

Jenny, you're not that far from Banbury, try asking at West Bar Vets in town - that's where I get mine from.
