Good chicken day

Recommended Posts

This morning began well, when I found my first !eggwhite! in the !gored! - one of the new girls, probably Charity as her comb is much redder...Been out and about all day but when I got home I decided to risk a mixed free ranging session and they all seem perfectly happy and peaceful together. To celebrate I'm letting them have the run of the garden, so they have that rare green stuff to explore as well as their usual bare earth - and it's so lovely to have a whole flock of happy hens pecking about in the sunshine.

Looking at the whole flock together, I'm increasingly convinced that Charity is actually a pekin cross...her body is nothing like as rounded as a proper pekin, in fact she has a bit in common with my barbu d'Anvers girlies, but is midway between them and her pure pekin run mate in size and has pekin-style feathery feet.I'll pop a picture or two on FB later if time permits, as I'd love some guesses as to her other parent. Ben did say he wasn't entirely sure....but as she was good friends with the dear departed Faith the faverolles she had to come home with me, even though she's not the pure bred girlie I might have hoped for. Happy hens are enough for me :D

Isn't it good just to be able to watch them sometimes. It makes me so happy to chill and enjoy them. I was wondering the same about my little buff orp Budgie, she is not much bigger than my pekin Crow and has some black in her tail feathers :?
