brambles
We've just candled a dozen bantam eggs which are under our first timer, mrs Doyle. At least one is a definite. It was lovely to look at the spider network of veins and see the pip. But there were also a lot of them that seemed to have a dark mass on half of the egg and light on the other half. Whats happening there? Are they definite duds? Going to candle again in a day or two to see what's going on as I don't want the risk of the bad ones exploding. Bit sad that there might only be one from a dozen and it's got a way to go yet as it's only day 6.
chuckmum6
If they were duds you would have clear eggs, just a slightly darker area where the yolk is, especially as your eggs are still relatively fresh at 6 days. I wouldn't worry they sound just like my eggs last year - they hatched.
scarlettohara
I had a couple of duds under a broody until day 27 - they didn't explode or even smell when I cracked them open.
brambles
Ooh fingers crossed as I realise that i was so disappointed thnking that there was only one. My girl is doing so well for a first timer too. It's all so exciting! My 11 year old is fascinated, it's great to see him so involved. brambles
Many of the others we're half and half, but if you hold the egg on the side it was if the top bit was dark, with a light section on the bottom. What's going on there then?
scarlettohara
The light section is the air sac
