Daughter bought 2 ducklins Help Need Advice

Recommended Posts

 DD bought me 2 (duck) ducklins for mothers day  most mothers get flowers and chocs. They are about 2 weeks old now and there is no way I have room for them in my small garden I already have 5 GNR . However she has a huge garden and has decided to keep them. We know they are a boy and a girl but thats about it , no idea of bread. My problem is she has very little money and I think she should get another little girl as the boy will pester the life out of a single female. She also has a fox problem, they live under next doors shed and are seen in her garden day and night and are not afraid of us humans. I was thinking the cheepest option would be a 6' by 12' by 3' high run with a house in side and a plastic paddling pool. Do you think this will be large enough :?: I know I will end up buying it  Is there anyone in my area that keeps ducks we could visit :?: Can you recommend a good book :?: HELP PLEASE I am only just getting to grips with the GNR

Hi the larger the run the better as ducks are very messy i would say it would need to be higher than 3ft and yeah the more ladies the better as drakes are sex pests in breeding season they will be fine with a paddling pool and they will need locking up everynight just make the pen as fox proof as you can and the females can be very loud maybe if you can post a picture when their a bit older someone can tell you what breed they are i may have been tempted to tell your daughter to take them back leanne :)

Hi Leanne I did but I can't tell her anything. I wouldn't even look at them when she bought them in as I was so annoyed. She has three children age 1,3 and 4, 3 cats and a dog and works. I am not sure where I went wrong with her. I guess you would say she was spoilt I suppose, but she does have a good heart and means well . She would go mad if she knew I was writing this on here.

She sounds like she has her hands full already let her give it a go she may think its the best thing shes ever done or decide they are not for her i would just stick to the 2 for now and if she gets on ok she can always add another girl at a later stage she will just have to be careful with the foxes living so near and your post did make me laugh  yeah she probs would kill you if she knew you wrote that on here goodluck leanne :)

Hi Leanne They are called Cambells. Do they fly :?: I got a quote from Bay housing for a run 12' x 6' x 3' high with side door and door in roof would be £159.50 + to put together £41.00 She will then need a house in side but an old rabbit hutch may survice for the time being if we can pick one up cheep and she could put weld mesh on the grass to stop the foxes from digging. Does that sound adaquate :?:

How about one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RABBIT-GUINEA-PIG-DUCK-FERRET-HOUSE-SHELTER-HUTCH-AC1-/180623269383?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item2a0dfc5e07

I have 2 which I use for broodies, isolation etc. If you hunt around you can get them cheaper, mine was £20 with free p&P :D

That would be perfect thank you scarlettohara :D

You can get a bigger one which I use for bigger girls - it has a pull out plastic tray for cleaning and costs about £30, same company do them :D I know Falkor uses them for ex-batts.
