Tutti Frutti
Aagh the flies are back! I keep the WIR and Cube clean, poo pick daily (nearly ) but I hate flies and they're back already! My list of extras is growing! So I wondered - what do you do for pest control? Worms - Flubenvet every 3 months (or sooner if I spot dirty knickers) Mite/Lice prevention - barrier red mite/lice powder and/or DE in bedding/dust bath Mite/Lice cure - Johnsons Ant-Mite powder on the girls and Nettex Total Mite Kill to clean the cube (repeated every 3 days until clear). Flies - I tried a Red Top but it stank so now I have fly paper. Mice - found one the other day asleep in my chiminea!!! It ran away so I might have that to contend with now But all feeders are raised (grub and gravity feeder) and feed stored in plastic tubs in the locked garage, NOTHING sprinkled on the ground! Eggs and larvae - Stalosan F on the bedding.
Mercedes55
I also poo pick daily, in the Cube and also in the WIR Worms - I do mine every 6mths Mite/Lice - Diatom and Poultry Shield Flies - Fly Trap thing was a disaster and mine stank too Mice - Not seen any so far Eggs and larvae - Hadn't even occured to me that I might have to do something for that. I do have some Stalosan F, keep meaning to sweep out the WIR, dampen the slabs and sprinkle some down, will get round to it at some point
Lydia
Yes the flies are always an unhealthy reminder to up the anti. Our regime is poo picking daily in the cube and the pootrays completely emptied weekly. Worms - Flubenvet every 3 months Mite/Lice prevention - diatom weekly in nestbox and poo trays. Barrier red mite powder in nest (mainly because I like the smell). Poultry Shield monthly stepped up to fortnightly in summer. Girls dusted with Barrier stuff regularly. Mite/Lice cure - touch wood we've never had a major outbreak but we have in Johnsons spray for the girls and Nettex Total Mite Kill to clean the cube. Flies - We use the Red Tops and find them effective. They have to be changed much more regularly than it says on the box though otherwise they really stink! We buy them in bulk from ebay. We also use citronella and eucalyptus sprays in the summer both in the run and the cube which makes them smell nice and keeps the flies (slightly) more at bay. Rats - We use Eradibait as and when we see action which works and, used properly, is safer around other wildlife/pets. We had a small problem last year with them getting in through the cube run bars but smaller weldmesh stopped that so the run is rodent proof. We continue to feed the wild birds without incident. Mice - next door's cat is effective but I don't worry about them so much as rats. Eggs and larvae - Stalosan F and Virkon in the run when it is cleaned out. I haven't had had a problem with flies but I use Rapport in the house which contains Citronella and I poo pick daily Mice the cat comes in handy even though I haven't seen any. Worms and larvae, I stalosan the run every three months or so.
