morning all, should chicken corn be scattered over the pen or placed in a feeding container?

Mine only get a small amount of corn thrown into the run just to get them back in. It gives them something to scrat about and look for.

Corn is very fattening, so is best regarded as a treat.

 

I sprinkle corn on the floor over a wide area (only in small amounts, less than an eggcup full for 8 Girls). This means the Girls can scratch around for it, which is their natural behaviour.

 

I also offer them corn from my hand when I pick them up. This helps them get happier with being handled, as they associate it with getting corn.

Many thanks for the reply but im confused, easily done! I scatter a cupfull of mixed corn in the pen each morning (3 chickens) and also vegetables and salad...am i doing something wrong..?? Thanks again

Mine have layers pellets in their grub all day and I give them a handful of corn and/or greens most days but late on in the afternoon so they've filled up on their pellets. Corn should be regarded as a treat and needn't be given every day .
