Broken/peeled beak

Recommended Posts

Found my frizzle pekin Fifi huddled under the hedge this pm with the top layer of her upper beak hanging off, gently removed it and cleaned with hibiscrub. Her crop felt empty and she didn't seem keen to eat. She pecked around with the others for a while then sat in the coop, the others were not picking on her. She has just eaten a whole bantam egg scrambled and mashed from my lap and now her crop is full again :D My question is are beaks like nails - would it have hurt and will it grow again although the layer that was underneath is hard and looks fine

There was a trace of blood which had dried, this is why I am worried about pain as it was right back to the nerve :? She is fring with the others and seems quite happy atm. I am worried she may have been pecked so am keeping a close eye  Will get some metacam if I think she looks miserable.

Not sure but suspect she may be being picked on as spending a lot of time wandering about on her own last few days. I've put her in with the baby cockerels in the (pink eglu) so she can be boss. They've had a few telling offs but are back a few minutes later pulling out her tail feathers  She seems quite happy - eating and drinking so will see how it goes :D
