Can chickens OD on greens?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have been feeding my chicks with lots of greenstuffs to the point of my garden being almost totally weed free.

Recently I have been feeding them grass cuttings which they appear to love. In no time they clear them up and ask for more. Today I threw about 20 handfulls to the six chickens. They still ate it all.

As the topic asks am I over feeding greenstuffs?

Hi Ian,

I wouldn't feed them cut grass as it can get caught up in their crops and cause problems. It is better to let them peck at greens as that way they are eating smaller pieces. I fill the wild bird food cages with cabbage/spinach and kale leaves and let them peck at those. :D
