ecoelf
It has been suggested to me that i get a couple of ducks to live with my chickens as they apparently will eat the flies. Does anyone please know if this is true will they really eat them and will they live happily with chickens?
The Dogmother
Not a good idea, they have different needs, hens are notoriously dim about water and are likely to drown in the pond. Drakes also have rapacious sexual appetites and aren't too fussy about what they take them out on... if you get my drift. Can you pen them side by side? The Dogmother
Good call, my grandparents used to have ducks and they make one heck of a mess
Lewis
Not sure ducks will eat flies? My friends bought me a pair of "surprise ducks" for my birthday so I didn't really have a choice They were separated for a while, in their own run, then when we built the WIR they went in together. Gerald the drake is still in with them and they get on fine now. He will chase them but they're faster than him and can just jump onto a perch or a wall in the garden and are fine. They are messy though so maybe best to keep as is for a while
