It's essential if you use an incubator or if you're not sure of the source (age/condition) of the eggs as you don't want bangers! I'll confess now. I don't often candle as I only use broodies and more often than not only hatch my own eggs so I'm pretty certain of success. Add in the complication of dark brown Marans eggs .....
