auntielizzie
Can anyone tell me this; If I got my next chickens at a very young age (is, chick sized), would the older chickens accept them better than POL chickens, thus avoiding difficult introductions with pecking/fighting etc. Or is this just not possible as the little chicks need special care or would just get eaten Just thinking ahead really (early moorhens I think) - I am dreaming of chocolate orpingtons and gold laced orpingtons, other coloured orpingtons, wyandottes of all colours, sussex of all colours, etc etc etc Sorry if this is a stoopid question
Egluntyne
No, it would be a recipe for disaster,I'm afraid, as the older ones would make mincemeat of the little 'uns. Some info *here*

Egluntyne
Not silly at all ... you did the right thing .... a bit of research.
Goosey Lucy
Not silly at all ... you did the right thing .... a bit of research. I agree. The only silly question is the one you think of but don't ask. By posting your question you have probably helped some other owners who may not have felt confident asking I have picked up lots of information that way. poachedegg
It's not a stupid question because now you know the answer!
Redwing
As long as you have secure separate introduction accomodation then getting chicks at about 10 weeks plus is not a bad idea, they MUST be kept separate from the others (as already said above) but the older ones will get used to seeing them and when integration time comes when the chicks are 18wks or so it will be a little easier than trying to introduce full grown birds
