indoor raised chicks and heat

Recommended Posts

I've got 2 cream legbar cross chicks that hatched Easter Sunday in my living room with a Brinsea electric hen type brooder and I think they've took themselves off the heat does this sound about right and if so could I start to switch it of in the day?

thank you Redwing. it's completely thrown me how quick they've taken themselves off heat they still have a lot of chick fluff showing through the feathers compared to the 3 that are outside with the broody which are 2 days younger! 2 barnbar crosses and a welmar cross, all 5 have Boris my TNN as dad

My four were born on Easter Friday & I have one of the Brinsea eco brooders like you. I have only just put it up to the highest setting & they all looked quite happy under it this morning when we got up. Am I ok to leave it on for them, or would that hamper the feathering process?

mine hasn't even got that far I lifted it up to the middle setting last weekend but to be honest I think they'ed already stopped useing it by then. i'll leve it on at night just incase 'till midweek then I'll take it out

if they are still using it as a heat source then leave it until they stop useing it as a heat source
