sankeys
I have problems with rats burrowing into my eglu run. Does anyone please have any suggestions other than slabs or concrete? Thanks very much.
Tweety
I'm afraid that the only solution is to get rid of the rats. I had a rat problem last year, and tried to get rid of them with Eradibait but eventually had to get pest control to sort it out. If you don't want to go down that route, you could try putting a wire mesh floor under the eglu and run, but concrete and slabs would be better. The Dogmother
Baited traps and slab under the run... job done!
sankeys
Thanks for your suggestions - would it hurt the chickens feet if I put wire under the eglu and run?
Tweety
I think it could be a problem with them scratching around and digging, which is why the other options are better.
Lavenders_Blue
You can put wire mesh on the floor of the run and then put a layer of woodchips, bedmax or similar on top for them to dig around in. This is what I have done in my hens' run (although they are only in there for a couple of hours max each day - until I wake up and let them out into their enclosure). Hubby built a wooden base for my coop and run to stand on with a wire mesh floor. It means we can put a 6"ish depth of bedmax in there for the girls to dig in.
