ohcarolina Posted May 21, 2011 Share Posted May 21, 2011 Hi I noticed that Pearl was sluggish earlier and having finally caught her (she's a bit flighty) I am really worried. Her abdomen is swollen and red and there's runny yellowy white poo in a little trickle. I've given her a warm bath and have her in a cage in the kitchen but dont know what else to do for her. I did massage her abdomen a bit but it just feels swollen (rather than having an egg in there). I don't think she enjoyed her bath as she managed to get her wings free and we both got drenched I don't know if she's laid as I have 8 girls and a couple are Pepperpots like her so lay similar colour eggs. I doubt it though as I've been short of eggs for 2 days. Can anyone offer any advice? I don't want to repeat the warm baths and stress her unless you think they're a good idea. (if so, possible peritonitis) Other question is - if you feel her crown, or under her wings, does she feel hotter than usual? Ain't Nobody Here Posted May 22, 2011 Share Posted May 22, 2011 I'm thinking peritonitis too . Does her undercarriage feel like a large waterfilled balloon? Is she waddling when she walks and is her tail pointing downwards? I've just had Poppy treated for peritonitis and she seems to have made a full recovery (Baytril and Metacam from the vet) so don't despair. She will need to see a vet to confirm the diagnosis and you will need to make a decision regarding treatment which is usually palliative. They can return to health for a time but it is rare not to have it return at some point. It can be weeks or months. You can always tell the vet that you have the meds in case you can use them to prevent you having to pay for more. It may be a tumour with fluid build up in which case she may well not make it.
