What do you use to keep all your beekeeping stuff together? A bag, a box?

I should do really, but I'm using a few shelves in the garage.. I'll end up losing stuff if I'm not careful!

I have a big plastic crate in the garage, but inevitably I find stuff spreads all over the house. If you have an out-apiary then you might find a plastic toolbox useful? I just gather stuff up as and when needed.

We keep all the main stuff for going through the hives in a plastic crate - the rest is on shelves in an outbuilding and any spare wax is in a plastic container - we try not to overstock wax.

I have a plastic bag with the smoker and lighting materials and hive tool which I pick up and take outside for inspections. I kept the spare supers with frames in in my study all winter so I've had that wonderful smell whilst I work. The other supers are rather unceremoniously dumped in the wood store.

 

OH asked me a week or two ago if we wanted another shed. Thinking he wanted it for his bikes I said no, but it turned out he was thinking I'd like somewhere for my bee stuff and gardening stuff . I made the fatal mistake of going shed browsing and have ended up rather falling for a 5m x 5m outdoor room/study thing with double glazing. Given we live in a small cottage this would be bigger than any of our 'proper' rooms!

Just what I was thinking - a honey shed!

You lot are a terrible influence on here! Oh I hadn't thought of a shed . . an idea that has led me to 'wouldn't it be nice to have a garden room with a veranda for the bee hives!

Given a shed recently and it has been great for gardening and bee stuff. It needed extracting from beneath a tree and so now has a permanent lean forwards... Space for potting up, making frames and storing supers etc.

I just make up frames on the kitchen table - it's got a padded heat protector on and an oil-cloth on top. Everything happens in my kitchen from upholstery to baking to honey extraction - yes, even potting up sometimes!

I've been into the hive this afternoon for a brief look with my nephew aged 14. Time now to leave them be for a week!

Well I have to admit, my hankering after this super-shed is fuelled partly by the desire to site it halfway up my long garden so I get a warm view of my one and only long flower border and the open view at the end of the garden which is usually quite chilly with an easterly wind, and the chooks who have to live up there! Because assuming I get power put up there it could become my new study - not that there is anything wrong with the current one. We'll have to see.

By the time we move it will be perfect and I will have the perfect job for my then newly retired hubby

Good job he's very handy and we have electricians,glaziers and plumbers in the family...... roll on
