Alis girls
Our 7 yr old female tabby has started poohing on floor next to litter tray. We got a new tray as suspected another cat might have been in house and weed as there was a tom cat smell. Our tom is neutered and smells luverlee. We got the new tray cos she kept poohing on floor and despite my best efforts cleaning it etc continued to do so. Her food has been put where she poos so as to try and stop her doing this deadly deed. Could she be going senile or is it stress? Thankfully we have laminate not carpet. Any advice to stop this would be welcomed.
Daphne
There was another thread on this; and from what I remember the more you clean the more the cat carries on poohing to mask the smell of the cleaner. Something more cat-appropriate was recommended but I can't remember its name The other thing is that if the cat is a bit stressed (eg another mog as you suspect) we all recommended getting a plug-in Feliway which releases soothing feromones; I certainly used this when my boy started and it worked. The other thing we did was to physically move the tray to somewhere where he couldn't poo to the side - we wedged it between a wall and a chest of drawers. He soon started using it normally and then we moved it back to its regular position.

Old Speckled Hen
My cat started doing this last year. I just gave her a much bigger tray and it's stopped.
Alis girls
Well saw vet for jabs etc and OH asked him if she was going senile - surfice to say vet gave OH a look which said no but you are. Poor cat was soo stressed she pooed in cat box. She wont go near OH as he very unceremonoulsy shoved her in box this morning. We will try some of the ideas on here and vet gave similar advice. Goosey Lucy
at your vet. Try putting a sheet of tinfoil where the cat has been soiling, the sound/feel/reflection may discourage her.
Alis girls
Thanks GS - I will try that too. She came and sat on my newspaper yesterday - a habit she likes doing when I'm trying to read so gave her a good brush and cuddles - took one look at OH and legged it. She has the right hump with him.
