Kit
Really gutted - I have been really careful when picking hen out of nest box to eat to make sure that I didn't' take an egg with me. And today when I dropped her down to the ground I heard an egg smash...she must have had it tucked under her wing. The egg had the beginnings of a chick in it

Redwing
Yes they do tuck them under their wings When you pick them up run your hands under the wings and lift her from there, they normally don't flap
Kit
Thank you Redwing. Will do that from now on...so cross with myself! On a plus note the remaining 9 eggs all have chicks in them!
Redwing
Don't feel bad. It's sad I know but I guarantee you aren't the first to have done it and you won't be the last! Great news on the other eggs
