ben179v
Sorry for all the questions, we have just had delivered this week our Eglu Classic with 2 chickens and the grub and glug etc. The grub feeder holds quite a lot of feed so how often should I be changing it?, once full it holds an awful lot of feed and 2 chickens are not really making that much of a dent in it. I give it a good shake every morning to ensure the stuff at the bottom cycles but do I have to throw it all away every day? seems a waste!, but every where you read says ensure fresh feed every day, obviusly I change there water daily but the feed is giving me a bit of a headache at the mo. I could obviusly put less feed in the grub feeder but i dont reckon they would get in there far enough to get it comfortably. As always your advice would be greatly appreciated. SteveC
I have a grub and it will typically do my 4 girls for 2 days. So yours, if reasonably full, should be doing 2 girls for 4 days. I would be minded to only half fill it (they'll spill less then as well!) - I read somewhere that the girls need about 100-120gms of feed per day each - so a regular sized scoop will probably cover you for 2 days. I would tend not to leave it for longer than that before giving fresh feed. Hope that helps.
SteveC
PS I have hybrids and they can reach the bottom easily enough as long as you've not mounted the grub too high up!
Sam
When they start to lay they will eat a lot more. I have always filled it to the top and just left it until it is near empty then just refilled and have never had any problems Maybe you could just half fill the grub and wait for them to finish that because theres no point in wasting any!
