sage
Just a word of advice for getting it done, don't get it done anywhere that says they will do it with a gun, go to a professional tattoo/piercing studio who will pierce it with a body piercing needle and proper body jewellery. Guns are horrible horrible machines that can do terrible damage and cause scaring, they give them to shop assistants in places like Claires Accessories who have no training and they are essentially ramming a blunt stud into you, particularly with noses they often get stuck halfway and can cause keloid scaring due to the tissue trauma, don't even get me started on what they can do to cartilidge areas like upper ears! Had my upper ear done years ago at Claires Accessories. The young girl that did it made a right mess of it, the gun stuck with the stud half in. I was lucky no damage done just a very sore ear and blood on my top. Sage
PurpleTree
I had my nose done with a gun at a music festival in 98, don't think I could cope with it being done with a needle. The top of my ear was done with a gun too in about 96, that was a proper piercing place. Quite fancy having my nose repierced as it's closed up now, but suspect I'd probably faint
Couperwife
ive got 2 piercings at the top of my ear one done in Claires (mega ouch) and the 2nd done in a proper piercing studio (much better) anyway, my question is... the piercing done at claires ive got a sleeper earring in it , and i want something a bit chunkier in it (the other one has a the ring with a ball in that the piercer put in it) can i change it easily?, what size do i need, they all seem to come in different sizes thank you cathy x
Cinnamon
It depends on what size your hole is If you take what you normally wear in it into a piercing studio they should be able to measure it for you - my Tragus is 1.2 for example, which I think it pretty regular for ear cartilidge piercings. PurpleTree
Cathy, I've got a hoop in the top of my ear too. The earrings I've just ordered are 1.2mm thickness, I'll let you know if I can get them in ok when they come (hopefully soon)
Olly
Sage, it healed well and didn't get infected but it took a long time - I was really surprised that it was still tender a good four weeks or more after piercing. I tried changing the labret after six weeks and although it felt ok, I woke up next day with blood all over the pillow so I went back to the original one. They are really fiddly though - I've just ordered a push-fit one from Body Jewellery to see if that's easier. Great site - and it would have been rude not to spend £10 to get the free postage ... sage
Cathy The 2 hoops in the top of my ear are 1.2mm. Thanks Olly & Cinnamon. Sage

Olly
A word of warning ... the new studs for my tragus piercing arrived today, to much excitement on my part. I thought the plastic push-fit ones would be easier to fit, but I hadn't considered the difficulty of inserting a tiny silver stud into a 1.2mm hollow tube, positioned in a place where you can only see it in the mirror, especially when quite a bit of pressure is required .... I am now back wearing the original gold stud, and my ear is glowing gently. These are nigh-on impossible to do yourself, I will have to recruit a friend to do this. They really should give a warning with tragus piercings 'not suitable for over-45s' - my eyesight isn't great, and my fingers aren't too nimble, and these are the fiddliest darn things you can imagine! Cinnamon
Did try to warn you............ I find it easier to do it with my mega magnifying mirror & with the hand opposite the piercing in my ear, holding the flat back of the Labret firm against my Tragus
Olly
That's helpful, Cinnamon. My piercing's in my left ear, so I need the right hand to do the fiddly bits ... most of my friends, like Claret above, don't 'get' piercings and would run a mile screaming if asked to do this, there are one or two who will be able to help, I'm sure. (It's one way to find out who your real friends are!) The other one I ordered, a pretty purple titanium 'normal' stud, is so tightly screwed up I can't undo it. A rather frustrating evening, but I will get there. At least the Bravissimo order that also arrived today, was easier to deal with!
Cinnamon
Put your other arm up over your head,if you can & just pop your finger in to hold the Labret steady. Works for me!
The Dogmother
Shall I come and help Olly? I'm not the slightest squeamish Piercings don't bother me in that way... I just don't see the point myself (sorry) Rosie had her ears pierced and then kept leaving the earrings out, so much fiddling on my part to get them back in again. Not fun as she has a very low pain threshold. She had to have them re-pierced at one stage and after another bout without earrings, seems to be wearing them regularly now.
