Raising chicks/young hens

Recommended Posts

Right, so I have been desperately looking for someone who has POL araucana and basically I cannot find them I blame morehens), a lot of people seem to be blaming the weather for problems with breeding this year....

Anyway, so I found a lady over near Halifax, only about an hour from me, who said she has some seven week old chicks/young hens (I'm not sure when which term applies) she says by this point they are quite grown up in terms of looking after themselves, but obviously, for feeding reasons alone I can't put them in with the big girls yes, so if I took them I would need to come up with some alternative housing? As it would only be for a couple of months before they went in the proper house I don't want to spend too much money so does anyone have any experience of similar? Ideas? Know where I can buy a very cheap hen coop with run or even rent one?

Thanks in advance, I hope you can help me and sorry for going on, it's just my way.

I have a friend who raises Aracuna s in a variety of colours (in Hampshire so too far for you) she has just supplied me with 3 juvenile lavender hens 16 weeks old and she is still not 100% sure they are female!! Its a difficult breed to sex. Who ever you get your hens from, make sure you can return them if they start to crow!!!
