Change in egg colour/appearance

Recommended Posts

In addition to my previous post, Betty's (Comumbian Blacktail) eggs seem to have changed from medium brown smooth even-coloured eggs, to being quite heavily speckled; in fact, today's egg had sort of "striations" (sort of wiggly lines) all over it.

Is this normal or is this due to her not eating enough pellets and pigging out on treats later in the day (she is always ravenous for these).

Advice appreciated.

Thank you.

I have a Colombian Blacktail and her eggs are light brown with small speckles. However, the amount of speckles does vary - sometimes hardly any and sometimes quite a dark brown blush. So I wouldn't worry - all my hens eggs seem to vary slightly on a daily basis in colour.

My colunbian blacktail is about 2 1/2 years old and her eggs did get lighter in colour quicker than any of my other girls

but they did regain colour after her 1st moult for a short while now through she dosen't bother to put egg shell on them at all or hardly any. she's been a good layer but shs's not the best advert for a commerical hybrid

P.S. none of the remidies for curing softies now work with her
