DIY-WIR
Hi, i've been given the task of making a walk in run by OH. I've looked at getting the wood etc and doing it myself, but i've also looked at buying an old green house or a green house frame and attaching wire around it to save building my own frame. Since then i've looked at Polytunnels as they are bigger and then attaching chicken wire to the frame. This should give us a lot of space for little cost. Any idea if this will work or be suitable? Thanks
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . That might work ok but be aware that chickenwire isn't fox-proof. You need weldmesh . You'd need to think about how your housing would work with it too!
LunaKiw1
check out the post some time ago about Aldi. someone bought a cheap greenhouse frame and seems to have made a brilliant and relatively cheap WIR out of it.
Egluntyne
I agree with ANH ...chicken wire simply isn't up to the task. It will keep chickens in, but it won't keep a fox out. You'd be better off using weld mesh.
beach chick
the theory is great - but I agree with everyone who says weldmesh. foxes can bite through chickenwire like a knife through butter (mixed metaphor but you know what I mean!). so as long as you use a good strong mesh, and make sure it is well-secured, it should work a treat I think. sandyhas3chucks
Dont forget security under as well, and maybe slabs or no dig weldmesh skirts . Best place I have found is Hills of Devon.
DIY-WIR
Thanks for the advice We've not had them long - Currently got Cube with 3 metre run but all of a sudden the ideas seem to be getting bigger bigger. At the minute she lets them out of the run to roam around the garden when she's this in but is resulting in alot of mess on the garden She's also planning more chickens so i better get a move on

Jools
Maybe have a look at this as an alternative? Or even keep the Cube and run extensions you have now, but invest in some netting to keep the chooks away from selected areas of the garden (because if your good lady is anything like me, she won't be able to resist watching them explore and investigate)! I use this a lot and where I have it permanently sited, I've attached it to wooden posts to keep it firm and stable. Because of the colour, it's nearly invisible, especially where you allow plants to grow through it.
