surfer_chicken
I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend, so I might be a while answering any questions in replies as I'll need to ask her first. She noticed this week that one of her hens has a bald chest. It didn't have one before, but she only noticed this recently. She gets on fine with the other chickens (I think she has about seven of them ), middle status in the pecking order, so she doesn't think she is being bullied. She also doubts it as the feathers are missing from her front, so it is more likely the chook is looking down and taking them off herself, though she has not been seen in the act. Poos and behaviour are fine, and she's not broody or poorly. Just wondered what might have caused this? Is there anything to worry about/look out for (lice etc)? And what can be done to prevent it? Thank you everyone
Plum
I'd get her to check for lice first but to be honest she's probably a bit broody even if not sitting or moulting. One of mine goes bare on chest and between legs over the summer each year presumably to cool down.
