gillian-fraser Posted June 16, 2011 Share Posted June 16, 2011 Hi there, I have two lovely Silkie's who seem have happy in their Omlet Classic. They have a full run shade/rain cover, but I noticed when it was very wet they choose to stay inside the Omlet. I am thinking ahead to winter, as some say Silkie's aren't the hardiest of birds that don't like getting wet and cold. Has anyone made additional modifications to ensure their birds stay warm and dry in winter. In very bad weather I may let them in the greenhouse but am thinking about ways to make life even more comfy for the girls throughout the winter. I thought about putting a clear tarpaulin over the run as well and the possibility of additional insulation to the house for cold weather. Redwing Posted June 16, 2011 Share Posted June 16, 2011 I use two sheets of clear corrugated plastic on the run, one covers one of the sides and the other overlaps that one and goes over the top and partially down the other side, I then attach an Omlet fun shade over the run to shade part of it - this holds the plastic in place too Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

bluebear100 Posted June 17, 2011 Share Posted June 17, 2011 Hi Gillian I keep 3 silkies in Eglu Cube (design to take 10) so lots of empty space. This winter with teh snow I worried they might be cold so I covered it with a thick rug and laid bubble wrap over that - but being careful to keep the ventilation clear. Inside I put a thick layer of straw over the perches it was really easy to clean and they were snug as bugs... their run has a covered section made of clear plastic sheeting (stuff used in some conservatories) however they don't seem to mind the rain.
