chickenherder
Good Morning All Over the winter months our lovely gaggle of girls (23 in total) thought it would be fun to wreck the garden. Not that we mind too much as it needed levelling. We have recently turned the ground over and levelled it as best we can with the girls taking dust baths and the dog digging holes but the chicken poo has nicely fertilized the ground. We are hoping to seed the area with some canadian grass seed we have got (supposed to be quite robust) but I am wondering how long to keep the girls off the area for? I'd hate for them to eat it and get sick or they eat all the new grass and it was a pointless exercise. What are your thoughts on it? Many Thanks in advance for your help
bouldercroft
I'm re-seeding a new patch too - not due to chicken damage though so I won't blame the girls. I have it fenced off with omlet-like netting and I keep an eye open for fence jumpers. A quick near-miss squirt with the water pistol gets them moving quickly. Plum
I kept mine off completely new area for 10 weeks and touched up area for about 4. Why not do half at a time so they have some area to roam.
