Hi all, bit sad this morning. Went to check my broody and 4 eggs and although 1 has started to pip i found another that had not been kept warm. i put it back under mabel but fear it may be too late. this brings the chick count down to 3 which is a bit of a shame. oh well i am hoping and the others will be ok. Will let you know later.

Hi again, well i now have 2 eggs that have pipped and can hear some chirping! Question, should i shut the door to the broody coop to keep them warmer ? mabel never leaves the nest unless i lift her off. Also how long do i leave them to hatch by themselves before i interfere? So worried they wont get out on their own! Its so hard with them under the hen, as at least in the incubator you can see how they are getting on. So excited and worried too!

I'd leave the door open and just let her get on with it, she'll not want to come out anyway.

I've heard you should shut it, she won't want to get up, but any hatched chicks could fall out. Unless it's completely at ground level?

Thats what worried me. I now have 2 hatched chicks and 2 more to go! Really want to see them but dont want to upset my hen by looking in all the time. Am i best to leave them to it?
