... Another Broody

Recommended Posts

Can anyone advise where I can get a broody cage from (or something that will do as one!) at short notice. Holly has suddenly gone broody on me - she's hogging the nesting box - but I can't restrict it as others are laying! :? Thanks in advance.

ok i had this problem until a couple fo days ago...

I got a large cat/small dog wire carrier... each day took my hen out of the nest box and put i=her in it.. made sure she had water and food available... and was in the shade... i then put her back just before bed it took 2 days to break her... she now has forgotten what she was in the nestt box for just need her to resume laying...

hope that help..

oh has to be the metal cage ones with the metal floor.. this will cool her breast if she lays down..

We have a broody at the moment - she is in the cube run in a dog crate on bricks (creates an airflow to cool broody down). We also have some weldmesh on the bottom as the holes were too big. A couple of galley pots with food and water and we will leve her there for 3 days and nights; usually works, however sometimes takes 4.

Thanks for the comments. Invested in a dog crate from Pets at Home and have it on bricks as suggested with food and water (although she insists on upsetting the coop cups). Instead of weldmesh, have put some wood across it to act as perches. Although its in the WIR I'm a bit worried about Holly getting stressed overnight so am covering with a light sheet - don't think it will make it particularly warm, just darker and safer feeling for her. Is this a sensible idea?
