chickenopolis
We have had Dolly and Margo for about 6 weeks, and about 2 weeks in, they started to lay eggs. We did have some soft ones, but generally they were banging them out OK. Happy Days........ Then they have just stopped. They seem in themselves to be the same as they were when we got them - vocal, sweet, naughty, cute etc etc, but we just now don't get eggs. I am going to worm them from today (with Flub - presume that's OK as they are only about 26/27 weeks old), but anyone got any ideas as to why they have just stopped. I am not getting softies or anything. Poo's are fine, combs are bright red, legs and feet sort of a pearl colour. They do seem to be getting fatter, or that might be my imagination and the fact that they get a few grapes, or sultanas and some mealworms every day. At this rate, we have 4 chickens and only get one egg every other day (keep going Gloria, I want to make a sponge at the weekend).... Anyway got any ideas what I am doing wrong?? Am trying to be jokey, but I am worried.
Chucky Mama
I would be surprised it is was wormed at this age but worming certainly wont do them any harm. I would cut out all treats for the moment and feed only good quality pellets or mash. Also, have a quick check that they are not laying somewhere else (or that someone/thing is not stealing them). The Dogmother
Hi Sarah *waves* I'd echo what CM said, and cut out those treats!
chickenopolis
Thanks for your advice as always - *waves" Hello Clare - loving your blog. I will cut out the treats for a week and see how we go. If still no eggs, I will worm them. They are still lving apart from Florence and Gloria, but mixed free-ranging is going well (despite the occasional peck from the oldies - sorry gone off topic then!) KimmyCustard
DH overdid the treats a while back and ours stopped laying as well, youre not alone. I stopped all treats (apart from lettuce) and they laid again after about 3 days
