Lonely Beryl - any advice?

Recommended Posts

Sadly Beryl's chum, Blanche, was PTS on monday due to a prolapse. Beryl is now all on her lonesome until I can get her some companions.

I immediately registered with the BHWT for their next Essex rescue but their next one isn't until August sometime.

Icould get some hybrids this weekend but I have a camping trip on the last weekend of July and intros would have just started. So... can she hang on until August for the ex-batt rescue? If i have new chooks before the camping trip would it be harder for my chicken-novice neighbour to look after them while I'm away? (It's only a two night break but the run will be split and it may be tricky for her understand how to make it logistically work) I'm a true worrier!

My OH asked could a dummy chicken be put in the hen house for company? I've no idea, has anyone tried this? Made me giggle at the thought though.

If not ex-batts I'd like to try a few pure breeds - can anyone recommend anywhere in Essex?

Sorry about Blanche :(

From what you say, I would say the right thing would be to wait until after your camping trip, and get the exbats. Beryl may get a bit lonely in the meantime, but there is no point rushing into something and then regretting it, and it won't be more than 4-6 weeks.

Alternatively, get some pure breeds now, and some exbatts later!! :D
