A Lovely Surprise Addition.

Recommended Posts

A friend happened to mention to me she was looking for a couple of silver laced Wyandotte pullets to add to her flock. "A ha! I know just the man!" I said 8) Another friend breeds them and I was due to drive past his house today so I asked him if he had any for sale and arranged to collect two pullets for my friend who will then collect them from me after her holiday next week. As I stood in his paddock admiring all of his lovely Dottes he said to me "I don't suppose you fancy taking a Brahma hen home with you? I'm not breeding them anymore and she's the last hen left, she's broody but I've stopped hatching for the year now.":shock::shock: I thought for approximately three seconds, put on my sensible hat and declined his kind offer :shameonu: My only spare coop is in need of repair, I've got two gold Brahma hens already, so I really didn't need her. So then he says "I'll show her to you on your way out":lol: Well of course how could I resist? She was flat as a pancake on the floor of a shed after he'd taken away the box she'd chosen to sit in. Brahmas are my favourite breed and she looked so pretty

When I got home, after ten minutes of frantic hammering my last spare coop was fit for a princess

I left her talking to two eggs that I shoved under her nose. Hopefully she'll settle on them and then I'll be searching for some Brahma eggs for her to sit on

I should also add that this new Brahma is family too, she's the sister of my Bridget and Francesca. It's like she's come home. She has settled down onto the eggs I gave her which is a good sign. She needs a name now, my friend doesn't name his hens only the cockerels. I'm going through a phase of naming my girls after Royalty, past and present. Will have to get my books out!
