KimmyCustard
I started the girls on pellets but mostly always had some left at the end of every day. I changed to layers mash to see if they liked that more and they love it. I also read on here that others mix their mash with water to make a porridge and feed their girls that. I have been doing this for the last few weeks and wondered if it makes any difference to the mash? IE: is it OK to leave it damp in the grub all day or should it be kept dry and let the girls drink as much water as they need ? I dont want to encourage any bug growth as we are due some hot weather this week and I am away from home so DH is in charge Thanks ladies x
Lavenders_Blue
I always feed mash dry as it spoils very quickly when wet. Wet mash is usually a treat for hens feeling under the weather or made with warm water on cold days to warm their tummies. As you have found, the hens LOVE wet mash, but by giving it every day you are making a lot of hard work for yourself - keep it as a treat.
