Night time ritual and sleeping habits

Recommended Posts

We have had our three girls now for 6 weeks. 2 Ginger rangers Poppy and Florrie and 1 Miss Pepperpot Clover . They have settled down so well and all get on really well together ..so far ! In their WIR while I am at work till after lunch and out in our small garden the rest of the day (well it was a garden  ) .

I have been watching them in the late evening and Poppy and Florrie always go into the coup first and settle down and Clover is always last ,usually about half an hour later parading up and down like she is protecting them. We have a wooden coup and Poppy and Florrie since we have had them seem to sleep in the nest box all the time with Clover blocking their way out till morning sleeping on the rungs...I have read on here that they should not sleep in the nest box is their problem with this carrying on :?: and is it just me being a big softy thinking that Clover is looking after what I think are the 2 younger ones :?: This evening I saw Clover nudge them one at a time up the coup ramp :!:

Aw how cute. It won't hurt them sleeping in the nest box but you may want to clean it each morning before they lay. Mine have all done it at one time or another. I just move them out when I lock them up at night and they eventually get the message. :D

I do scoop out the the nest box each morning and it seems OK ,I have 2 allotments which I go to each morning before work so the remains from the night before are going to a good home :) So I think it will carry on .Miss Pepperpot Clover does seem a very protective young girl.
