Stoats/wessels

Recommended Posts

If foxes weren't enough to contend with i know have a stoat/wessel problem. My cat and myself got attacked by one yesterday - neither got hurt, but they are vicious little critters. Has anyone had to deal with these, not so cute creatures? If so how do i go about it?

Is it definitely a stoat or weasel? It's not a mink? I only ask as I thought it was unusual for stoats or weasels to attack humans and my friend had a mink on top of her rabbit hutch and she had to hit it with a spade to get it off. She rang the RSPCA and described it and they said there are lots of mink about because people have released them from fur farms.

I wondered the same as Millie-Anne, stoats and weasles are shy and small, mink are another matter though bigger and certainly much more aggressive. Not to sure what to suggest, other than contacting RSPCA or you local pest control for advice, so good luck.

I can't be 100% sure what it was i was told it was a stoat so i think it was (?). My Cat had been attacking it and so it wasn't happy when i came toward it. It was small thin and light brown in colour. Not sure about tail length as i wasn't hanging around to look :D . I have been told that they will take a fully grown rabbit as well as my hens and chicks.

Hello,

I saw a stoat the other day, but as far as I'm aware there've left my girls alone.

You could try a live cage trap?

If it's a stoat or weasel you could release it a long way away, if it's a mink then legally your have to dispatch it.

It took food and went into a pet carier happly so it is someones pet we think , someone from work has taken it home as it was scaring people ( not the normal thing to see walking about a shop ) it may have been a working one as we have lots of fields round work .

Thanks for the advice everyone. I don't know what a pole cat looks like so i think back to google image. Glad the one walking around the work place has a lovely new home, that one doesn't sound evil like the one in my garden, it sounds very sweet. Interesting topic though as i come from Australia and i have never seen any of these little creatures
