Very poorly chicken

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help , have a very poorly chicken , seems to have no energy couldn't climb ladder last night so had to lift her up. Expected to find her gone this morning found her just sprawled out and not moving put her a box away from others with some corn ,, still nothing , anyway she laid an egg , still very tired,

Put her in with the others and she drank some water out of a cup ,which seems to of exhausted her as now very dopey , she can't stand up she try's but her foot is bent under and all one side seems gone. No local vet with knowledge of chickens , so don't know what to do.

Thanks

Jane

It is strange that she has laid an egg as she sound quite unwell. I would take her to a vet to be honest. They don't need to be an avian expert to know whether she is suffering or requires some supportive treatment such as antibiotics. It would be pretty harsh to leave her to die if she could be helped either to recover or to die humanely.

She does sound very poorly, and I would take her to the vet. As Chucky Mama says, the vet doesn't need to be an expert on poultry to know if she can be treated at all or if it would be kinder to let her go. Either way, treatment or euthanasia, you will have to see a vet unless you can cull her yourself.

She seems to be getting a bit better eating and drinking a bit if I feed her, keeping her on her own most of the time,

Fingers crossed we may have nursed her back , sure vet would of just put her down . She has tried to stand up and managed a short time :)

Thanks for advise given
