disposal of fly trap gooo - yuk

Recommended Posts

please can someone tell me the best/easiest/least smelly way of disposing of the mass of dead flies that build up in the flibait fly traps. I've just had to empty my 1st one in order to refill it..................PONG or WHAT! :vom:

I've ended up putting the mass into a plastic bag and into my dustbin :vom: , then rinsing the remainder and flushing it down the loo :vom: before refilling and hanging up again

I now have a pongy drive (by the bins) :vom: a pongy bathroom :vom: and, despite load of fabreeze ('other air fresheners are available'!) a strong whiff right through the house :vom::vom:

Tips for next time gratefully received!!!

PS I intend to update with lots of chook photos soon!!!

I bought 2 when I bought them, and will throw the entire empty one away. I will buy another 2 next payday.

That's my solution

but where will you put the contents of the 1st one....................I can't bury it cos I've no soil!!!

The contents of the first one stays in the flitrap, I will double bag it in a bin liner and put it out with the rubbish.

Just buy the Flitrap tops that screw into a 2 litre milk bottle. Once full you just unscrew the top, (this is then put on another milk bottle) replace the milk bottle top and throw the bottle away. No smell or mess. It's far earier than washing out the original Flitrap containers and that way you are recycling the milk bottles.

You're recycling them and then making them unfit to recycle again at a recycling plant, though.

We use the Red Top and get through one a month at the moment. It goes in three bags in the bin when it's done and it is the most smelly thing I have ever come across. This month we also accumulated maggots in it, along with the 1000 flies that must have been in there. We were tempted to try and get the maggots out to feed to the girls, but the thought of it makes me gag ... it is a brilliant product though and keeps the garden free of flies ..

I decided not to replace the last one and within a week I'd ordered another. They really work. We are getting thru one a month too and I hate the smell but hate flies more. We had tiny maggots once too :vom:

One a month!? Mine is still going strong - 6 weeks in - next week I'm going to open another one and have 2 on the go so that as the other one stops working so much the new one picks up the slack
