question regarding growers pellets

Recommended Posts

Mine are using up a bag of growers at the moment. The only difference I can see is that the yolks are a bit paler than usual. I assume that it is because they don't have the 'colour enhancers' ie marigold etc in it. I'm not losing sleep over it as the hens seem happy enough.

Yes as above I should think as long as it isn't a permanent thing it'd be fine. Growers doesn't have the extra Calcium in it Layers does. Although if it is the one that has the anti cocci stuff in it (not very common) it might be best not too as the drug could be in the eggs? I tried to get growers with anti Cocci stuff in it but couldn't find it anywhere. But they had the anti cocci crumb for 8 weeks anyway.

I think growers pellets just have a bit more protein in them which can make them a bit fat if you fed them on it permanently - but if you're just using it up it shouldn't be an issue.

I think some people switch their chooks to growers in winter to help them through moult and keep them in good condition!
