Was thinking of a small handful of uncooked to get them into their run at night.

A small handful is probably ok, I'm cautious about anything like that which swells up in water - if the eat it and then drink, it could swell up and block their crop. A small amount should be ok though - most of the stuff in mixed corn will swell to some extent, but it doesn't do them any harm.

Good idea, how long to cook it for - I've only ever added it to a casserole ?

I have given it uncooked with no problems. No more than a handful though.
