Poo moving!

Recommended Posts

One of my girls who's 1 has been off colour recently and I happened to see one of her poos and it seemed to be moving with little worms in it? Nice. Couldn't study it too long as another chicken stepped in it! :vom: I wormed them in the spring so was about to do it Monday so started it yesterday instead with flubenvet. She is really not herself and is sitting in the doorway of the cube mostly, standing around looking hunched but still drinking and eating, pecking the grass a bit when let out of the run. Should I take her to the vets or is it worms and the flub will work soon?

I would start worming straight away and give a tonic as she will be under the weather with that level of infestation. It would be wise to give her a general health check too as it would not be out of the question that there is something else gong on too. Check her vent, crop, abdomen for tightness or swelling and look for external parasites. Of course, worm all of your chickens :)

Thank you, started worming a few days ago now but not much difference seen. How long will it take to see a difference? Some really green poos in the tray. Have treated for mites & lice with xeno last week. Did check her over but can't feel anything other than being quite skinny and she has some dirty feathers around her vent. She likes mushy pellets so have just added warm water to the medicated flubenvet pellets in the hope she will eat them as haven't seen her eat the normal pellets. Added poultry spice to pellets and lifeguard to the water. Am I doing the right things?

You really need to mix the flubenvet with dry pellets or dry mash and need to feed it as directed over a week for it to work properly. If she is not keen to eat or drink you may have to get some Panacur liquid prescribed to her by a vet (not licensed for poultry) in order to get some wormer down her ASAP. Of course the worms in her poo may be a red herring. She may be unwell for some other reason. If in doubt, I would suggest that you make an appointment with a vet.
