AlisonH
Every couple of weeks Lottie lays a huge egg - it was 86grams today - it seems to take her ages, an hour at least to lay but I can't work out if it's due to her FR more/ FR less or another reason. My other chook, Charlie also lays a larger than her normal size on the same day although it's not as big Any ideas?
chickencam
How old are they? The older hens get the larger the eggs they tend to lay, but often the shells are thinner and the whites are runnier too. Also when they are young and just starting to lay it can take a while before their eggs become consistent in both shape and size and shell formation. One of my 2 1/2 year old hens laid a pretty speckled egg today that was the size of a Cadbury Mini Egg but she laid a large pale thin shelled egg the other day too. sage
One of my ex batts Hilda (approx 3 years) has always had large eggs 90grm + but over the last few months she has only been laying 2-3 eggs a week but they are all over 100grms and very watery whites. They all tend to have a rounded side and a flat side. I think she is just coming to the end of her laying days . Sage Todays egg was a massive 118grms I wish she would stop it as she isn't the biggest hen by a long way.
AlisonH
They're about 7 months old. Yesterday, Lottie stayed in the coop for a few hours, I was worried she was trying to lay a very large egg but then discovered that she's sat on it - think she's going broody!
