Think it might be time to say goodbye to Queen Charlotte..

Recommended Posts

Queen charlotte our rhode island red has sour crop - she has had a week on Avipro followed by a week on itrafungol which is quite a strong anti-fungal med. Her crop never really returned to normal, but today (day 7 of meds) it has ballooned right up again and when we syringed her meds in tonight she vomited all over me and DH and it was truly the most foul smelling thing ever. The weird thing is she is otherwise bright eyed and bushy tailed, eating and drinking and even laying as usual for her (every other day). I just can't see how she can survive with this illness, it must be putting pressure on her breathing and heart as well. Really not sure what to do, back to the vets tomorrow I think and will see what he thinks. There's a bit of me that hopes she will just pass on to chicken heaven overnight as she really is in a state. :eh:

If she is still eating and drinking I expect she's still here today? See what the vet says. The waiting and seeing is always the worst bit. I have a bird with sour crop but he hasn't eaten for 3 days and I am going to have to cull him later as he has always been sickly and I think there is something else going on as well.

thanks Daphne - sorry to hear about your bird with sour crop :( . Charlotte is hanging in there, lively as ever and her crop not so bad today. When the vet saw her last week he said she is a very strong bird in good health and he doesn't think there is anything else going on but it's hard to tell. I can't get hold of the vet today anyway so it's watch and wait for now.
