Jenny Smedley
Hi, I hope someone more knowledgeable than me can answer this as I'd hate to kill all my bulbs! My husband bought some builders sand a few years ago for a DIY project that was (as usual!!) never done and since then it has sat in a pile in the corner of the garden. I am about to plant some Allium & Fritillary bulbs and read somewhere that it is a good idea to put some sand & grit in the planting holes, whilst placing the bulbs side on. My question is : is the builders sand OK to use for this purpose? (In the back of my mind is something about some types of sand having some sort of chemical in them that is detrimental to plants/ lawns.) Thanks, Jenny Smedley
sjp
don't use building sand, sharp sand is what you need, building sands holds water and can have a lot of salt in it if it isn't weathered
