Snowy
My OH has an ipod touch, 3rd gen. Somehow he has 'lost' the itunes app. He can still access it from itunes on my laptop, but prefers to browse from his ipod. I've updated his ipod and synced it and everything, but still no itunes app. My ipod still has the app. Anyone know how I get it back?? Geoid
Do you mean the app for the iTunes store, or the app for music? Is it the icon the one on the right or left?
karlotta
I didnt think it was possible to delete those apps... Are you sure it's not just hiding in a folder?
Snowy
Its the one on the right Fred. No, I didn't think it was possible to delete them either, but he seems to have managed it somehow I keep syncing it and searching for the app to reinstall it, but it just doesn't show up when his ipod is docked. Mine still shows it
karlotta
Had a quick google... try this... http://www.technipages.com/ipod-touch-ipad-iphone-itunes-icon-is-missing.html
Snowy
Aha, thanks Karlotta, will try those!
Snowy
Or I would, but I don't know his passcode
Geoid
When on the first page (press the home button), press the home button, it should bring up a search bar. Type iTunes in the search bar, if it appears, it has not been deleted, and is most likely hiding in a folder or on a different screen or something. Snowy
Done that Fred, it's not there.
Geoid
Have you turned it off on on again? (hold down top button) Have you checked the parental controls? (Settings>General>Restrictions> Select OFF)
Snowy
I think I need to get into the restrictions section, but it asks for a passcode. When he surfaces (he's been on nights) I'll ask if he knows what his passcode is. Trouble is, I don't think he has ever set a passcode (I tried the one that we normally use and it isn't that)! PurpleTree
You can't delete the iPod (iPhone) or Music (iPod Touch) app. There isn't an option in restrictions to hide either - understandably as a music/media device! Either go to Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings (or via iTunes when connected to your computer). If this doesn't work, hit Erase All Content and Settings instead. Then re-connect to iTunes & restore using your last back. Simple!
PurpleTree
It's not jailbroken & had the app icon changed by any chance??
Snowy
What does jailbroken mean? It's not the Music app, it's the itunes store app as above. Trouble is, he lets our son play with it and he is always rearranging the apps Just checked on my ipod and you are right you cannot delete the itunes app either. How weird
Geoid
You can't delete the itunes app, but you can hide it using restrictions.
PurpleTree
Jailbroken - some people think it's trendy to not use Apple's iTunes to manage & sync their content & instead go by a 3rd party client. Can change all the icons etc... I say it's pointless, but then I've used Apple products since '92. The iTunes Store can be hidden (done it on our kids' iPods) & App Store restrictions implenented - in App purchases is a must to turn off if kids use your device. If they rack up a hefty bill Apple won't refund - they did change the time frame between asking for your payment password, was 15mins. Deleting Apps is also advised to be turned off. Snowy
Well I tried doing a back up on it, but got an error, so tried to restore it but the whole thing seized up I googled it and have managed to scrub the whole thing and restore it and am currently waiting for it to restore OHs previous back up. Hopefully (everything crossed) itunes will reappear when it's finished! Well it isn't jailbroken, have always used itunes, but I wonder if he went into it and did put restrictions on as our son did manage to rack up a hefty bill using in app purchases Didn't know you could turn off app delete though! PurpleTree
Can I just point out that it was my hubby that wrote the last replies, as he's the techy. I have absolutely no idea how to do any of it Hope you manage to get it back Snowy
PurpleTree
I've a bad feeling you won't be any better off!! The back up basically keeps a record of what downloaded apps you've installed/layout & passwords/settings - doesn't keep track of what media you had synced last. I duped my eldest lad's iPod back up on to middle lad's iPod to save time setting up blocks & restrictions. iTunes Store app missing = no panic, iPod (if iPhone) or Music (if iPod Touch) app missing = BIG PROBLEM. Roll on iOS5...
Snowy
And of course it's restored itself to his previous backup, so still no itunes. Damn. Anyone know what the default passcode is likely to be? I've tried 0000 and 1234!
PurpleTree
No default passwords I'm afraid, you create/set them when you turn on the action required - ie restrictions, screen lock (& sim lock with iPhones). Out of interest, why the need for the iTunes Store? Buy music/video on computer & sync via iTunes. Unless after ringtones, then can't buy via computer! Snowy
He doesn't use the laptop at all, I plug his ipod into my laptop occasionally to back it up. He wants to be able to browse and buy from his ipod rather than have to get me to do it through the lappy. He doesn't remember setting the passcode. Maybe I did it after the son buying incident Can't remember what it is though
Geoid
It looks like you are going to have to restore it and put all the apps, music etc back on without using a backup. May take a while. But it looks like the only option.
Snowy
Oh dear, panic over. Had a last try at remembering the passcode and found it And have now switched his itunes back on Better go and replace all his music now hadn't I? Thank you for all your help
PurpleTree
Good to know sorted. Erase & clean install every now & again can't be recommended enough - for any device, esp. computers - might be just a Apple fan thing! Can't stop playing. iOS5 will work more to his work flow with iCloud (once all aspects if ever are available in the UK) - able to stream rather than sync the music he's bought via iTunes (should look at AmazonMP3, sometimes cheaper) & no worry about syncing/backing up as will be done via 'the cloud'.
