Baytril, Tylan and a vet who knows nothing!!

Recommended Posts

hi all, some of you might recall me having a sneezing and respritary (sp?) problem, well the girls had citricidal, repite, ACV etc then went on baytrill, then Tylan and have still got the sneezes?! What is going on? The tylan was a course of 5 days and it stopped last week, i wondered if i could put them on another course of it a month later etc, has anyone heard/done this? Also has anyone had probs such as mine? 2 antibiotics, every natural product that claims to help sneezes on the market and still its there?!!? Egg laying is okay, i dont think all of them are laying everyday perfectly but we get around 6-7eggs a day min. Poos are good, recently wormed, loused every couple of weeks, garlic is ALWAYS in the water, just a couple of cloves, they free range as much as possible and someone (a chicken health person) told me apples were good for them, the rotten the better so they have been having fresh apples from the apple tree every morning, i pull 6 down crush them under my foot and they love it! they have started hanging around under the tree for me as they know its apple time!!! Am i doing something wrong here?!

Advice/thoughts really appreciated xxxx

My chooks recently had Myco and it took three lots of antibiotics to finally shift it and even now we still get the odd sneeze. I asked my vet about this and he said that in the end you have to assume that they have the antibodies to fight it off themselves and just watch out for secondary infections. I am taking the view that all the while they are eating, drinking, laying and generally doing chickeny things I am not going to worry. A very helpful piece of advice I had on this forum was to buy a tonic called 'Herban' and I found this really did give the girls a boost. I think you are doing everything possible to help your girls and I am sure they will shake the sniffles off eventually. :)

Have you been back to the vet?

If you have no faith in that one then try another one, there are plenty of vets about, do a bit of calling around till you find one that seems knowledgable about chickens, if you live in a city area head out of town if necessary

Tylan usually does the trick so pehaps they need another course? or another type of antibiotic, there are at least two others that you havent listed

If you've tried every home remedy and two lots of antibiotics then it has to be a vet job really
