Melbourne12
My daughter kept quail for a couple of years until she became too busy with work. They've now been inherited by one of the other chicken keepers on our allotment site. My personal view is that quail aren't that much fun - certainly not a patch on chickens. You can't become friends with quail in the way that you can with chickens. The advantage of quail is that they can be kept in small housing, and seem entirely happy in their confinement. Redwing
I agree, quail are perfectly happy living in confinement which is a big bonus I also agree that they arent much fun! you have to be careful they are in rat proof housing/run and that they cant escape - you cant let them free range like chickens Introducing more is harder even than with chickens and so you are better off buying a group and not adding to it if possible, they can and can attack each other randomly Chickens need more space and a bit more maintenance but will be more interactive.Silkies need a covered and sheltered run too I guess a lot depends on the room you have and your budget
Chortle Chook
Silkies - no contest! Seriously though it would all depend on why you might want quail or might want silkies. I can't really see that there would be much similarity between them. Quails will give you pretty, rather exotic eggs but then silkies will give you pretty rather exotic (and cuddly) pets.
