Faddy eaters

Recommended Posts

Must be heriditary as I was one and now my 2 boys 15 and 10 are a nightmare.

ES and OH cant tolerate spicey food - not that mine is that spicey. So sort of rules out curries and chilli. I like casseroles and roasts, also homemade soups. These are tolerated for want of a better word. I am a working mum with not that much time and like to cook from scratch but happy to try the odd short cut. Any more mums of faddy eaters and before i stick my head in the oven and end it all (its not even gas) any ideas.

Ever asked them to cook instead? Not being rude (honest!) but sometimes when they are really fussy/faddy it might be the best idea. My kids are 14 and 11 and they both went through a phase of "I'm not eating that..." so every week we write a menu for Mon-Fri and we all have a say in what is cooked. It also saves money as we know exactly what we're buying

You can hide an awful lot of nutritious stuff in a pasta sauce, I used to to do this a lot when my children were smaller. I have found that letting them cook does help as does gradually trying a different twist on favourites to introduce new flavours gently. I have been pretty luck with mine, they will eat most things, but then again they have greedy parents who will also eat most things so maybe genetics takes a role like you said. Would they shop with you and choose their own meals, each having a say on a different night?

MMM KFC - YS would love it if I could make popcorn chicken. I think with 1/2 term coming up might just do this. time is a big prob as I work 2 evenings and do fancy the mess of OH's and kids efforts although sure it would be edible. Its the "oh we've used evey dish in the house " I cant cope with.

We have a rule that you can only use 1 work surface and you have to clear up before eating. There is a good KFC style recipe on the forum somewhere. Homemade KFC with some homemade potato wedges and some corn on the cob (wrap in microwave clingfilm and log it in the microjobby for a few mins) is a start. Pasta sauces would be a doddle for them too :) YS knocks himself up a quick tomato and basil sauce regularly for a snack, ES an omelet and DD mac and cheese or risotto :D

Well tonight I left them with a sausage casserole - I went to work will eat mine later - seemed to be some enthuiastic mumblings from the 3 of them. It was a hairy bikers recipe (why do i want to put 2 fat men?) easy and nutritous. we will see. Thanks for advice. I think Cinnamon did a KFC type thing recently which went down well - must look it out.
