The hybrids have been in bed for ages but the ex batts are still out and about in their run. They seem to be determined to enjoy every second of their life even if the weather is horrid and wet and it is almost dark

 

I love my A team... Agnes and Annie, such a shame that Agatha only had a short time of freedom.

Mine are the opposite , the go to bed early to get the best spots in the cube.

We were only saying at the weekend what a weird bunch chickens are! After losing our precious Maisie chook to a fox last year our girlies are all permanently housed in a large covered run. So whilst we were pottering about in garden last weekend enjoying the last of the late summer sunshine we threw the door of the WIR open on Saturday for some supervised free ranging. Haven't I read somewhere that chickens are meant to be fabulous for autumnal garden pest clearing? So, all seven ran to their doorstep (led by the ex-bats) stood there gazing about and muttering to each other for a few minutes and then...

 

...they all shuffled back into the run, climbed into the dust bath and went to sleep.

My ex batts are in the and the others in the so they don't have to fight for their sleeping space.

 

Jaspermum how odd that they did not enjoy their freedom in the garden
